SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Festival of Trees at Tower Square downtown has long been one of Springfield’s most popular holiday season attractions.
Eyes lit up at the sight of this sixth annual Christmas tree festival during the Sunday afternoon preview party.
The doors to the festival formally open right after the downtown parade of the big balloons Friday morning. Those treated to the sneak preview told 22News, these are not your typical Christmas trees.
“A lot of them here are very valuable,” said Sarah Tsitso from the Springfield Boys and Girls Club. “We have a tree worth thousands of dollars in gas cards. We have a tree with electronics, we have trees with just about everything.”
The Festival of Trees raises money for the Springfield Boys and Girls Club programs for its more than 1,000 young members.
Once the 17 day festival’s over, the ornate trees are raffled off to some fortunate families.
