The Springfield Boys & Girls Club is one of the only youth service agencies in the City of Springfield that stays open on Saturdays. In 2014, the Carew Street facility served over 800 youth on Saturdays during the academic year. These children come from every geographical region within the City of Springfield, including Liberty Heights, Memorial Square, South End, Old Hill/Six Corners, North End, Indian Orchard, and Forest Park. The Saturday programs operate from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and serve children ages 6 – 18. For over 100 children each Saturday during the school year, the Club is their second home. It serves as the only positive place away from the streets where they can engage in safe, fun, and developmental programs that enhance their social, emotional, physical, and educational well-being.
Operating out of the Carew Street facility, the Springfield Boys & Girls Club Saturday programs provide educational and recreational activities, promote leadership and social skills, and provide education and career development opportunities every weekend. More specific activities include, but are not limited to:
Biddy Basketball & Teen Intramural Sports
Lacrosse Instructional Program
Open Swim & Group Swim Activities
Badges for Baseball
Computer & Financial Literacy Programs
College & Career Readiness Activities
